Metalloinvest, a leading global producer and supplier of iron ore products and hot briquetted iron and a regional producer of high-quality steel, has started using advanced in-pit crushing and conveying technology at the Lebedinsky GOK iron ore mine in Belgorod Oblast, Western Russia – It is located in the Kursk Magnetic Anomaly, like Mikhailovsky GOK, the company’s other main iron mine, which operates a high-angle conveyor.
Metalloinvest invested about 15 billion rubles in the project and created 125 new jobs. The new technology will enable the plant to transport at least 55 tonnes of ore from the pit each year.Dust emissions are reduced by 33%, and topsoil production and disposal are reduced by 20% to 40%.Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov and Metalloinvest CEO Nazim Efendiev attended the official ceremony marking the start of the new crushing and conveying system .
The Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Denis Manturov, addressed the ceremony participants via video: “First of all, I would like to extend my best wishes to all Russian miners and metallurgists whose professional holiday is Metallurgists’ Day, And to the staff of Lebedinsky GOK on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of the plant. We value and are proud of the achievements of the domestic metal industry. In-pit crushing and conveying technology is a landmark project for the industry and the Russian economy. It is a tribute to the Russian mining industry A further testament to the state of the art. My heartfelt thanks to the team at the factory for the great work.”
“In 2020, we started operating a unique steep-slope conveyor at Mikhailovsky GOK,” says Efendiev.”The introduction of in-pit crushing and conveying technology continues Metalloinvest’s strategy to make production more efficient and environmentally friendly. This technology will significantly reduce dust emissions and cover the operating area, reducing the production cost of iron concentrates, allowing the plant to mine more than 400 million tons of high-quality ore reserves.”
“From a production development perspective, today’s event is very important,” Gladkov said.”It has become more environmentally friendly and efficient. Ambitious plans executed on the production site and our joint social project have not only strengthened the industrial potential and economy of the Belgorod region, but have also helped it to develop in a dynamic way. ”
The crushing and conveying system includes two crushers, two main conveyors, three connecting rooms, four transfer conveyors, an ore buffer warehouse with stacker-reclaimer and loading and unloading conveyors, and a control center. The length of the main conveyor is more than 3 kilometers, of which the length of the inclined section is more than 1 kilometer; the lifting height is more than 250m, and the inclination angle is 15 degrees. The ore is transported by vehicle to the crusher in the pit.The crushed ore is then lifted to the ground by high-performance conveyors and sent to the concentrator without the use of rail transport and excavator transfer points.
